Stakeholders in Engineering Education: Collaborative and Reflective Engagement in a Transitioning World

Conference 2024

Conference Theme and Key Elements

Core Themes

  • Stakeholders and Partners
  • Collaboration
  • Engagement
  • Inclusion

There are numerous stakeholders and partners in engineering education i.e., industry, government, Indigenous, Métis, and Inuit peoples, society, professional governance, accreditation, students, non-engineering programs, K-12 teachers, and researchers. Engineering graduates must have a broad range of skills and competencies; be able to work in a rapidly evolving socio-technological world and maintain sustainable practices; be adaptable and become leaders.

Along with most Canadian Engineering Programs, we are re-imagining and redeveloping our programs to support the energy transition; diversity, equity and inclusion; sustainability; engineering leadership; engagement with Indigenous people and the future of work and society. Join us at the University of Alberta on Treaty 6 territory, as we identify and engage with stakeholders to improve and innovate in our programs developing and designing the engineers of the future.

Host the CEEA-ACÉG Conference

Interesting in hosting the CEEA-ACÉG Conference?

Please email [email protected] with the following information:

  • Institution name
  • Names of proposed organizing committee members (at minimum, please include names for the conference chair, technical chair, and treasurer)
  • A brief description of your proposed conference theme (the theme should be topical and relevant to the diverse engineering education community), and your vision of how sessions, workshops, other activities, and/or the conference location support the theme
  • A brief description of the proposed meeting location (e.g., on campus, at a hotel, etc.) and the facilities available for conference sessions and participant accommodations
  • A preliminary budget spreadsheet with proposed expenses and revenue structure
  • Proposed meeting dates
  • A signed letter of support from institutional leadership (president, dean, or vice-dean as appropriate)
  • Any other relevant materials to support your proposal

The CEEA-ACÉG conference is typically held over four days (usually Sunday to Wednesday) in June, and attracts over 250 engineering education professionals from across the country and beyond. Applications from all regions are accepted.

A budget template and other useful planning documents are available in the Helpful Documents section.  Please contact [email protected] if you have questions.

Applications will be reviewed for consideration by the Conference Committee of the CEEA-ACÉG Board using the guidelines found on this website.

Benefits to Hosting the Conference

In deciding whether to apply to host the conference, there are numerous benefits to consider.

• Hosting the conference raises the visibility of engineering education engagement on your campus, including with senior university officials.
• Participating in the planning, organizing, and delivering a conference is an excellent opportunity for faculty to gain valuable educational leadership and service experience, including that recognized in promotion and tenure cases. Host campus staff and students who get involved in organizing the conference also gain valuable leadership skills and experiences.
• The University President, Faculty Dean, Department Head, or another senior official has the opportunity to welcome and address the conference participants. The process of preparing the remarks often serves to deepen their understanding and appreciation of engineering education engagement and learning at your institution.
• Local provincial or municipal elected officials also have the opportunity to welcome and address conference participants, or sometimes they may write a welcoming letter to include in the programme or proceedings. As with university officials, this experience deepens the understanding and appreciation of engineering education.
• Hosting the conference raises the visibility and improves the reputation of your institution and your engineering program externally (within the region, with other universities and industry throughout the nation, and internationally).
• Hosting provides the opportunity for a large number of your students, staff, and faculty to attend and participate in the conference, to expand networks, and to learn from engineering education leaders from across the country.
• Hosting the conference is an opportunity for your institution to support and advance the field of engineering education in Canada and abroad.
• CEEA-ACÉG has an agreement in place to share profit between the host institution and the association. This is disclosed in an MOU.
