Overview

Overview: The shift to remote education has presented instructors with many challenges. In engineering, one of the biggest challenges is shifting the experiential learning from hands-on laboratories to remote settings. Institutions with spring/summer terms have been faced with this challenge for months now, and undoubtedly have first-hand experience that might be valuable to others.

In this webinar series we will take a ‘case study approach’, and look behind the curtain of the experiences from one institution – Memorial University of Newfoundland.

By the end of this session, participants will:

  • Understand the most pressing challenges, successful solutions, and unexpected surprises faced by instructors teaching lab courses remotely
  • Have the opportunity to gather insight on current pressing questions
  • Connect with others who teach similar courses, or face similar challenges

Please note: this session is not intended to ‘present the correct way to teach labs online’. Instead, it will offer perspectives from instructors who now have some experience running labs remotely. We invite you to bring an open mind, as we try and learn as a community.

In this webinar series we will take a ‘case study approach’, and look behind the curtain of the experiences from one institution at a time – for our second session in the series,  Memorial University of Newfoundland will be presenting some of their experiences.

This interactive session will include:

  • Short presentations from three different lab instructors on their experiences this term (approx. 20 min total):  Caroline Koenig, Lori Hogan, Syed Imtiaz
  • Interactive Question & Answers – upload and vote on questions in advance (approx. 25 min total)
  • Breakout Room discussions – with the three instructors (approx. 25 min total)
