Research Project Title: Integrating Values-based outcomes in Engineering Design Education

Job Description:

We are seeking a MASc student to continue ongoing research into the effects of the culture of disengagement on how engineers teach, practice, and learn about design. The culture of disengagement includes three pillars that have been shown to negatively impact engineer’s willingness to consider integrating values in their design approaches. These pillars are meritocracy, the socio-technical divide, and de-politicization.

In this stage of the project, the research team is embarking on a longitudinal study of students in multiple Canadian engineering universities. We will follow students as they progress from first to fourth year and investigate how various teaching and learning opportunities and interventions impact their mindsets.

As a graduate student on this team, you will be involved in data collection and analysis (including surveys and focus groups) and you will have an opportunity to direct and influence the research questions that we pursue over the next two years.
