CEEA / ACEG 2020 Conference

CANCELLED – Fostering Students’ Ownership of Their Learning

(May 5, 2020)

Dear all,

We hope that you and your family are keeping safe and healthy during this challenging time.

After the 2020 conference was cancelled, some of the original links with information about paper submission (format, dates, etc.) were taken down and this may have caused some confusion for some authors. The conference link is now: https://ceea.ca/conference/fostering-students-ownership-of-their-learning/.

We would thus like to confirm the information sent to authors in our email more than one month ago:

1. You can submit your paper which will be included in the conference Proceedings. Note that papers will be marked as being ‘Peer Reviewed’ or ‘Non Peer Reviewed’, depending on which option you had chosen and based on the results of the peer review process. Specific information was sent in the previous email to authors. The deadline to upload your final version on EasyChair is Tue, May 19, 2020. Once ready, the conference Proceedings will be accessible at https://ceea.ca/resources/. Should you require additional information about paper submission (template, etc.), please refer to https://ceea.ca/resources/.

2. Authors of poster papers do not need to submit a full paper, but can submit a copy of their poster (in pdf format) which can be made available with the proceedings.

3. You can withdraw your paper and consider submitting it to next year’s conference held in Prince Edward Island. Note that your abstract/paper will be re-evaluated by the new program committee. If you choose to withdraw your paper, please notify us by email at [email protected]. If you do not notify us and we do not receive your final revised paper by Tue, May 19, 2020, then we will assume by default that you have chosen to withdraw your paper.

If you have any other questions, please contact us.

Best wishes,
Lawrence Chen and Yong Zeng

Important Update on the 2020 Conference

The CEEA-ACEG Board, the 2020 Conference Organizing Committee, and the local hosts at Concordia University and McGill University have been working together to assess the situation with respect to the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of this process, we have been carefully monitoring information from public sources (Public Health Agency of Canada, the Government of Québec Information about Coronavirus, and the Government of Canada’s travel advisories) and information from our own institutions on their response to this situation.

We all agree on the importance of in-person meetings, sessions, and workshops; however, this must be balanced with our priority to provide a safe and healthy space for all conference participants, speakers, attendees, exhibitors, and partners.

After weighing all of the factors, we have decided to cancel the 2020 Conference. Members of the Conference Organizing Committee with be contacting authors very soon with further details on this decision.

Benefits to Hosting the Conference

  • Hosting the conference raises the visibility of Engineering Education engagement on your campus, including with senior university officials.
  • The university President, Faculty Dean, Department Head or other senior official has the opportunity to welcome and address the conference participants. The process of preparing the remarks often serves to deepen their understanding and appreciation of Engineering Education engagement and learning at your institution.
  • Hosting the conference raises the visibility and improves the reputation of your institution and your engineering program externally – within the region, with other universities and industry throughout the nation, as well as internationally.
  • The mayor or other elected official has the opportunity to welcome and address conference participants or sometime they may write a welcoming letter to include in the programme and proceedings. As with your University President, Dean or Department Head, this experience deepens that understanding and appreciation of the concerns and interests in Engineering Education and how students are taught.
  • Hosting provides the opportunity for a large number of your students, staff, and faculty to attend the conference.
  • Host campus staff and students who get involved in organizing the conference gain valuable leadership skills and experiences.
  • Hosting the conference is also an opportunity for your institution to support and advance the field of Engineering Education in Canada and even across the globe.
  • CEEA-ACEG has an agreement in place for a profit share between the host institution and the association. This is disclosed in an MOU.
